Carpenter and Company was formed and incorporated in very early 1984. For two years it occupied 300 square feet at One Ward Parkway and had but one employee in addition to its founder. Mr. Carpenter’s credentials were a college degree from Westminster College, three years with the Travelers group department primarily in Chicago, 11 years with Connecticut Mutual in sales, supervision and finally as General Agent.
In 1980, Carpenter returned to Kansas City where he continued to sell life-accident and health and retirement plans for two years and then two years of property and casualty insurance with a local firm. The company started by representing three companies: Travelers, Safeco and Employers Mutual.
By 1991 the company had grown to five employees, $500,000 of commissions and 1,000 square fee of office space. Two individuals hired in 1991 are with the firm still today. The company experienced steady growth leaving One Ward Parkway in 2005 with ten employees, nearly 2 million in revenue and a strong clientele base in nursing homes, pest control as well as main-street America.
